PENGGUNAAN POLYVINIL ALCOHOL (PVA) SEBAGAI MEDIA QUENCH TERHADAP BAJA AISI 1045

Penggunaan polimer sebagai media quench dalam perlakuan panas baja adalah alternatif untukmeningkatkan kekerasan tanpa menyebabkan terjadinya distorsi dimensi / tegangan sisa yang berlebihpada baja AISI 1045. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui konsentrasi polimer dan agitasi terhadapkarakteristik pendinginan baja AISI 1045 dalam larutan polivinil alcohol (PVA) dengan konsentrasi10% dan 40% dengan mengunakan sistem pendinginan tabung agitasi vertical selama 10 menit dan 20menit. Hasil percobaan menunjukan bahwa tingkat konsentrasi polimer akan menurunkan lajupendinginan sedangkan agitasi hanya meningkatkan laju pendinginan rata-rata pada konsentrasi yangrendah.Dari pengujian kekerasan dan strukturmikro menunjukan terjadinya penurunan kekerasandengan semakin meningkatnya konsentrasi polimer. Hal ini disebabkan proses pelepasan panas daripolimer dengan tingkat konsentrasi (viskositas) yang tinggi semakin menurun sehingga lajupendinginan kritis untuk mendapatkan struktur martensit terhambat akibat cepatnya terbentuknyalapisan pelindung.Sedang lamanya agitasi tidk memberi pengaruh yang nyata terhadap pemecahanlapisan pelindung (insulating film) dari polimer terhadap spesimen.References
