Journal Summary:
ARCHITENSA: Architectural Design Journal (ADJ) was first published (Volume 1 Number 1) in February 2025 by the Architecture Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Merdeka University of Malang. ARCHITENSA Journal is a periodical publication that showcases architectural design works, including Academic Designs, Design Competition Results, and Real Project Designs. The journal focuses on architectural design as a form of intellectual and creative output—whether as part of academic assignments, competition entries, or professional projects. The main subject of study includes architectural entities related to space and form—of buildings, environments, and urban areas—across a range of scales.
Design works are expected to reflect the dynamic interplay between physical form and contextual forces, including human activity, societal dynamics, and environmental conditions. These elements—alongside underlying value systems (social, cultural, economic)—are regarded as essential foundations in architectural design decision-making. While the scope remains open in terms of depth and thematic exploration, submissions that embrace multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary approaches in architectural design are strongly encouraged.
The editorial team of ARCHITENSA invites contributions from prospective, emerging, and professional architects whose works have not been previously published in any print or online media. The second issue is scheduled for publication in August 2025.

Current Issue

Starting this first publication, ARCHITENSA: Architectural Design Journal publishes five articles on architectural design. The architectural design works displayed are still dominated by internal authors of the study program and one alumnus who participated in an international design competition in Bali. All manuscripts take the central theme of sustainable architecture. As we know, the SDGs issue that is currently emerging plays a significant role in realizing architecture in cities in Indonesia. The environmental theme that is popular with green architecture is the most popular topic/theme in the Final Assignment of Architecture Students, in addition to the sustainable socio-cultural theme. Using local materials such as wood and bamboo also presents building designs rooted in local culture. Hopefully, the material in this first edition will inspire readers and encourage them to participate in future writing (ADJ).
