The existence of accompanying prisoners is very necessary to fill the shortage of prison staff and as an aspect of development and an effort to encourage the participation of prisoners in development activities in correctional institutions.This research aims to find out and understand the regulations and constraints related to the appointment of correctional inmates as Tamping in Correctional Institutions. The research method used is empirical juridical research, namely examining the provisions of positive law related to the appointment of prisoners as Accompanying Prisoners, as well as examining the practice of implementing it at the Sukabumi Class IIB Penitentiary.The results of the study indicate that the process of appointing Tamping in Sukabumi Class IIB Prison is basically stated in the Tamping SOP which has been adjusted to the provisions in the Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia Number 9 of 2019 concerning Amendments to Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights Number 7 of 2013 concerning the Appointment and Dismissal of Leaders and Tamping in Correctional Institutions. This study also identifies several obstacles in appointing Tamping in Prisons, and provides recommendations for efforts to overcome these obstacles.
