Post-Publication Discussion

EnJourMe (English Journal of Merdeka): Culture, Language, and Teaching of English encourages open academic discourse and believes that publication is not the end of the scholarly discussion. The journal provides structured mechanisms for post-publication discussion, allowing readers, researchers, and authors to engage critically with published work, report potential errors, and contribute to ongoing academic debate.

1. Forms of Post-Publication Discussion

Post-publication feedback and commentary can be raised through the following formats:

  • Letters to the Editor / Formal Comments: Readers may submit critical commentaries, discussions, or alternative interpretations regarding articles published in EnJourMe.

  • Author Responses: Authors of the original article are invited to reply to accepted letters or comments to provide clarification, defend their methodology, or present supplementary evidence.

  • Correction Requests: Authors or readers can report genuine errors (e.g., factual, mathematical, or typographical errors) that do not undermine the overall validity of the published findings.

2. Guidelines for Submitting Comments and Discussions

To ensure constructive and high-quality discourse, all post-publication submissions must meet the following criteria:

  • Academic Merit: Comments must focus strictly on the scholarly content, methodology, analysis, or conclusions of the original article.

  • Tone and Decorum: Submissions must maintain a respectful, constructive, and professional tone. Personal attacks, defamatory remarks, or ad hominem critiques will not be considered.

  • Timeliness: Critical discussions or letters should ideally be submitted within 6–12 months of the article's online publication date.

  • Originality: Discussions must be original and not submitted or published elsewhere.

3. Process and Peer Review

All post-publication submissions undergo a transparent editorial process:

  1. Submission: Submissions must be sent to the Editorial Office at [email protected] with the subject line: "Post-Publication Discussion - [Original Article Title / Volume / Issue]".

  2. Initial Screening: The Editor-in-Chief and relevant Section Editors review the submission to verify its relevance, clarity, and appropriateness.

  3. Author Notification: If the commentary is deemed valid for further consideration, it is shared with the original authors to give them an opportunity to respond.

  4. Peer Review: Both the commentary and the authors' response may undergo single- or double-blind peer review at the discretion of the Editorial Board to ensure academic quality.

  5. Publication: If accepted, the Letter/Commentary and the Author Response are published together in a subsequent issue of EnJourMe and linked directly to the original article.

4. Handling Errors, Corrections, and Retractions

When post-publication discussion reveals significant errors or ethical concerns:

  • Corrigendum / Erratum: Minor errors that do not alter the main conclusions of the paper will be addressed through a published Correction linked to the original manuscript.

  • Retractions or Expressions of Concern: If discussions highlight fundamental flaws, unresolvable data invalidities, or ethical breach, EnJourMe will follow COPE guidelines to issue an Expression of Concern or a formal Retraction Notice.
